British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka visits Jaffna

The British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, James Dauris, has made a visit to Jaffna this week.

Mr Dauris met with the chief priest at Nallur Temple and tweeted that they had discussed the “central role of religious leaders in reconciliation.”

The chief priest told journalists that he had raised the issue of political prisoners and resettlement.
“Many features of the new government’s 100 day plan have not put into action,” he said. “In particular, steps must be taken to release prisoners. As a true sign of peace, the people suffering in prisons must be liberated. I also stressed that action must be taken to resettle the people of Valikamam North.”
On Wednesday the High Commissioner met with villagers of Palali South and paid a call on Northern Province Chief Minister, C V Wigneswaran.
