Eelam Tamils are being desperately wandered as refugees internally and around the globe due to the oppressive ethnic war. The pain comes out of being separated or lost the motherland is the most terrible.
All the people living in Eelam were uprooted in one or several times in their lives. Those who lived in Vanni were displaced several many times. The Eelam people who were subjected to displacements due oppressive ethnic war are well aware of the immense tragedies of refugee life.
Many thousands have still been living as refugees without being resettled in their own lands in north and east for around thirty years. Their entire lives have been being spent at refugee camps for around three decades.
Newly elected Sri Lankan government attempts to create the semblance of the fulfilment of resettlement to the sight of world by resettling just five hundreds of our uprooted people. Who are those who were uprooted from Valikamam North and Sampoor? How is the camps where they have been staying called?
The new government of Sri Lanka stated that they would immediately release Sampoor. But the uprooted people from Sampoor are yet to be released. The resettlement of these people is halted by the money giants. Owing to that, these people have been still continuing their painful live.
The Sri Lankan government deceptively stated that they had released 19,000 acres of lands after releasing just 570 acres of lands among the 6000 acres of lands appropriated as the High Security Zone (HSZ) in Valikamam North. On the other hand, this government acknowledges the fact that they did not remove even a single camp located at Jaffna.
570 acres of lands were released in Valikamam North as in a manner of keeping the camps remain unclosed. The people belonging to the remaining more than 5000 acres of land have been still living as refugees without being resettled. The attempt to create the semblance of no refugee without resettling these people is actually the fraudulent politics.
The Sri Lankan military still keeps these lands that were appropriated as High Security Zone (HSZ) in their occupation. These people are pathetically continuing the days for their return to their own lands.
These people have been living in muds during the rainy season and living with immense discomfort in the huts. The Sri Lankan military has been joyfully running their businesses by constructing luxurious hotels in the lands of these uprooted people.
Not merely the people belonging to Valikamam North and Sampoor areas, the people belonging to the several pockets of lands appropriated for the military use in north and east also have been living as refugees. Murukandy, Killinochchi Paravipanchan and Keppapilavu are some of these lands.
There are no words to express the miseries of the people living in refugee camps. Many of those lives are about to end without seeing their own villages. Many of the children have been growing without seeing their native lands. The lives of the uprooted people are full of miseries.
Demilitarization in the lands belonging to people in north and east and the eradication of High Security Zones (HSZ) are necessary for the complete resettlement of our uprooted people.
The actions of Sinhala government, that still occupying the lands of several thousands of people even after the six years passed since the war came to an end, should be stopped.
In this day, we pray for happy resettled lives to those who were uprooted due to violence and war not mere in Eelam but also around the world.
What is important here is to note what was brought the Eelam Tamils to the identity of refugees. Eelam people were chase out to around the world due to the oppressive and genocidal war against them. This genocidal war appropriated the lands of our people and made our people refugees. Chauvinist oppression is still densely spread its shadow over the Eelam people. Historically a unique ethnicity is oppressed and being without its rights today. Eelam people will live as citizens when they enjoy their rights while being free from oppressive environment.
