Maithri : Ranil in secret pact

President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe have entered a secret pact to oust the pro-Mahinda Rajapaksa group from politics, Sinhala newspaper reports citing reliable sources.

The secret pact has has taken place on the intervention of the Indian government and the recent statement of the President was a result of this intervention, the newspaper adds. The newspaper further says : Although even the closest aides of the President did not know about the President's controversial statement, the Prime minister was fully aware of it, sources add. Measures taken by the President and Prime minister to bring about a transition of power and its continuance to prevent a civil war and authoritarian rule have now become a subject of study at international universities taking up approaches of international democratic governance, reports say. However, China, who was a staunch supporter of the Rajapaksa government, is keeping a close eye on India's intervention on Sri Lankan politics.
