Action is being taken to provide certificate for those who were disappeared instead of death certificate, according to the presidential commission into disappearances.
Fourth day of the session of the presidential commission has been held at Point Pedro District Secretariat yesterday.
During that, presidential commission asked those who went there to testify whether they are going to receive compensation or death certificate.
Responding to that, they want their relations who were disappeared instead of compensations by getting through the death certificate.
“In addition, if we receive the death certificate, then investigations may not be carried out. Therefore, we are not ready to receive compensation by getting through the death certificate”, the relatives of those who were disappeared stated.
In response, the chairman of the presidential commission stated like below;
“You do not want to get worry like this. Certificate stating the details of those who were disappeared will be handed over to you. We introduce providing such certificate as the alternative for those who refused to accept the death certificate”
“This new procedure will be implemented from next January. Red Cross is going to be in collaboration with us to implement this new procedure”, he added.
