It has been revealed that Japan makes attempts to set up a coal power plant at Sampoor, Trincomale. Japanese company is said to have been involved in the initial phase with regard to this.
During the Mahinda’s regime, India gained the permission to set up a coal power plant at Sampoor. Lands of Sampoor people, who had been living in the refugee camps for 9 years due to the setting up of a coal power plant, have been released.
818 acres of lands of these people have been released by the present government. It has been revealed that among these 818 acres of lands, Japan demands 515 acres of lands to set up their coal power plant. Japan demands the paddy lands of Sampoor people. Sampoor people are shocked and hindered by this shocking news.
A letter in this regard has been handed over to R.Sampanthan, the opposition leader and the leader of Tamil National Alliance. This letter was writing urging the cooperation of the Tamil National Alliance.
“We had been wandering due to the coal power plant that was already set up. Meanwhile, we are not going to allow another coal power plant to be set up in our lands. Our representatives should clearly speak about our stance with regard to this”, people from Sampoor stated.
