JVP opposes attendance allowance to MPs

JVP Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath today slammed the government for the proposal to increase the attendance allowance of MPs to Rs 20,000 per day.

The current allowance is Rs 500 per day. The government has therefore proposed for a staggering 40-fold increase in the attendance allowance. This allowance is paid in addition to the monthly salary, telephone bills, staff salaries and other allowances.
