In addition, a kind of liquid is poured on these wastes after being dumped and several cows that ate these wastes died. The people of the area are shocked and worried due to this.
The cows that go to gracing lands eat these wastes as their foods. Among these cows, 11 cows are dead and remaining cows are suffering for their survival. This incident has shaken the people living in the area.
Livestock is one main livelihood of the people in this area. Most of the cattle depend on the gracing lands in this area. The cows that went to gracing lands died after eating the wastes which were originated from the military camp and insecurely dumped at the vicinity of residential areas.
In addition, other animals including dogs and crows also died after eating these wastes from military camps, according to the general population of the area. The dogs that ate these dead cows are also affected severely.
Cows that eat large amount of wastes died on the spot whereas the cows that eat these wastes in moderate amount died on the following days. Calves of the dead cows also died.
When this incident was notified to the Maruthankerny Assistant Government Agent through the Village officer, they visited the spot on Friday and looked at the condition there, people said.
When a reporter visited the place where the military dumped the waste, he saw that the soldiers sealed the dump with sheet using heavy machine and when the reporter tried to take photographs he was denied permission by the military personnel and was sent back.
