People of Mullaitivu district stated that the new constitution should recognize the right to commemorate Martyrs and Tamil Eelam is the only solution to the ethnic issue.
Sitting of collecting the public opinions with regard to the constitutional reform has been held yesterday at Mullaitivu. During this sitting, the people of Mullaitivu district stated like this.
Meanwhile, the new constitution should make sure that the army camps should only be located at wherever the army camps located in 1983. Also, the people emphasized the need for constituency based electoral system.
It should be avoided to celebrate the war victory which annihilated a ethnic group in Sri Lanka and the new constitution should recognize the right to commemorate Martyrs, the people of Mulaitivu added.
Tamil Eelam will be the only solution to the ethnic problem and federal styled constitution for the North-East should be developed, the people of Mullaitivu district stated. The further added that land and police powers should be provided to the provincial councils.
Right to Information Act and Media freedom should be ascertained and the national flag which does not show the divisions of ethnic groups is needed, they emphasized.
People of Mjllaitivu district enthusiastically participated in this session.
