Northern Province Chief Minister C V Wigneswaran on Tuesday (April 26) reiterated the need for a federal system for the North and East.
Mr.Wigneswaran told reporters that he had briefed to Sweden’s Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom in Jaffna that Tamils have been calling for a federal solution.
He said that the Northern Provincial Council has put forward the demand for a federal solution to the Government.
He added that the decision was made after consulting with the experts who were brought from Switzerland.
He further added that the southern politicians misunderstand the term federalism and misinterpret as separatism which leads for criticism.
He also added that the calling for federalism is not to divide the country but to unite.
Meanwhile, the government has said the resolution passed by the Northern Provincial Council calling for federal system, would not be approved and not validate.
