Prof. G.L. Peiris arrives at the CID to give statement over his statement

Former Minister of External Affairs Prof. G.L. Peiris arrived at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) this morning to give a statement regarding certain comments he had made recently on the discovery of explosives and a suicide jacket in Chavakachcheri in the district of Jaffna. The police had recently discovered a suicide vest and ammunition from a house in a raid and then a man was arrested in connection with the discovery of the items. The suspect has been on interrogation under the custody of police and the TID is carrying out investigation. Professor G.L.Peiris stated that the discovered items were to be taken to Wellawatta. His statement had led the government to probe on his statement. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe stated that why the former minister had not informed the police of the information if he had knew about it.
