The massacre took place while Kumuthini boat was on its way from Neduntheevu to Ku'ri-kaadduvan jetty on the island of Pungkudu-theevu.
NPC Councillor and former TNA parliamentarian M.K. Shivajilingam visited Neduntheevu with a group of Tamil activists to mark Mu'l'livaaykkaal Genocide Memorial Week at the recently constructed memorial stone for the genocidal victims of Kumuthini massacre.
A memorial event to mark 31st year anniversary of the massacre took place at Neduntheevu MV at 11:00 a.m. and was presided by the principal of the school Ms. Saratha Krishnadas. Coconut saplings were distributed to the people in memory of those who perished in the genocidal onslaught at the event.
NPC Minister of Environment and Agriculture P. Aiyngaranesan, NPC Councillor Vinthan Kanagratnam, Rev Fr Ezhilamuthan from the Church of South India and Pastor Rev Puviraj from the Assembly of God took part in the memorial event, which was organised by Neduntheevu On'riyam (IE).
