Public Representations Committee in their recommendations allegedly insists to reduce the powers of governors.
The 24 member Public Representations Committee on Constitutional Reforms appointed by Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, has decided to call for public opinion.
The opinion is recorded in the report which includes the island wide public’s opinion made by the committee consisting of representatives from political parties and civil societies to seek public opinion on the proposed constitutional reforms.
The opinion is revealed, while the North and the East provincial councils have being condemned that the representatives of the provincial council who elected by the people can’t fulfil the aspirations of the people and there are several unnecessary interventions of governors.
However, there is confusion on the report, while the Public Representations Committee recommended two different views on the new constitutions’ devolution of power, it is learnt.
A report on the public’s opinion and recommendations will be handed over to the PM Ranil Wickremesinghe on today, Monday (May 16).
