Viggy for police security in the North, not Army


 The Armed Forces are not required in the North since seven years have now elapsed since the end to the war, Northern Province Chief Minister C.V.Vigneswaran said. “We can now look after our own security with the help of the Police” the Chief Minister added .
He was speaking to the media after attending a meeting with local government officials in Vavuniya on June 9.
Vigneswaran further said they were fully capable of ensuring security in the North with the assistance of the Police. He said Police strength could be increased if there was a need for it.

Vigneswaran said they had requested Mahesh Senanayake to remove Security Forces armouries from the North as they were too dangerous for the lives of the people. The response to got was that time was needed to do it. When asked how long it would take he did no give a definite answer , the CM said . Vigneswaran said they had witnessed the devastation caused by the Salawa Armoury explosion and fire. That was why they had called for the withdrawal of troops and removal of armouries from the North.
