Thousands of people were forced to disappear during and after the war and many of them were believed to detained at the secret detention centre at the Naval Base in Trincomalee, which was highlighted in 2010.
Meanwhile, CID told courts yesterday (Wednesday) that 11 persons, mainly 5 Tamil students abducted by unidentified groups in Colombo and suburbs in 2008 – 2009, had been detained at the Trincomalee Navy camp and former Navy commander retired Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda was aware of the abductions.
CID revealed this matter to Magistrate Ms. Lanka Jayaratne when the case about the abduction of 11 persons were taken up yesterday at Fort Magistrate court. Further, Wasantha Karannagoda will be investigated in the coming days, said CID officer Nisantha De silva.
The magistrate postponed the case to August 2nd.
It is believed that many Tamil youths were detained and not just 11 persons in the Trincomalee camp.
