Former Minister Vinayagamoorthi Muralitharan, who was arrested this morning by the FCID, was remanded until December 7.
He was ordered to be remanded by Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya today (Nov 29).
Vinayagamoorthi Muralitharan known as Karuna arrested by the FCID
Former State Minister Vinayagamoorthi Muralitharan, also known as Karuna, who was summoned before the Financial Crimes Investigation Department (FCID) this morning, was taken into Police custody.
He was arrested in connection with alleged misuse of a bullet proof vehicle valued at approximately Rs 800 million, Police said.
Karuna was a Minister in the former Government and was also an LTTE member.
After leaving the LTTE, Karuna led the Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pullikal (TMVP) and helped the army to defeat the LTTE in 2009.
Following the end of the war Karuna joined the Government led by then President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
In January last year when the new Government took office Karuna lost his place in the Government and later in Parliament.
He has been accused by human rights groups and UN agencies of being involved in human rights abuses during the war.
