External Affairs Minister Tilak Marapana said that the past crimes can not be punished by the law of protection from disappearance. He explained this when explained in detail about the law passed in order to protect everyone from forced disappearances.

Sri Lankans have no procedures to punish foreign courts through the law to protect everyone from forced disappearances. Furthermore, this law is not a punishment for those involved in the past criminal acts. Arrangements have been made in the 8th order of the Act to punish him if he has been hiding in the country where he has been hiding.
All matters mentioned in the International Declaration can not be considered in the Act. Tilak Marapana said that the matter could not be imposed on the matter before the law was implemented.
