US naval, seismic partnerships with genocidal Sri Lanka bring miseries to Eezham Tamils in Trincomalee

New police posts have been put up, and security patrols beefed up in Moothoor East of Trincomalee district following increased joint naval exercises between the U.S. Pacific Command and the naval forces of genocidal Sri Lanka in the seas off Trincomalee, the occupied and Sinhalicised capital of Eezham Tamils. Two weeks ago, on 30 May, Colombo also signed a trade deal with the subsidiary of the American firm Schlumberger for seismic study off the east coast of the occupied country of Eezham Tamils. Now, commando units of the notorious Special Task Force (STF) have been deployed to carry out days long clearing operations in Moothoor East where SLNS Vidura naval base is located.

The STF commando units were deployed to carry out continuous clearing operations across the jungles dotted with villages in Moothoor East. The clearing operation was targeting the jungle areas mainly.

The operation was launched from Uppooral in Seruwila division towards Thoappoor in the south of Moothoor East and went on through Pa'l'lik-kudiyiruppu until it reached Choodaik-kudaa, which is located in the north of Moothoor East, the sources in Champoor said. The STF commando units reached Choodaik-kudaa on Saturday.

The STF commandos who intercepted and interrogated the Tamil villagers who went to collect firewood in the jungles said they were searching for illegal alcohol brewers.

However, the commando deployment didn't look like a regular police operation, the villagers said.

Last year, between August and September, the SL Navy had put up 25 additional coastal sentry posts, at 75 meters distance from each other along the coast of Champoor.

While the SL Navy keeps occupying more and more lands in Champoor, the SL Archaeology department and Buddhist monks have been deployed with claims of Sinhala Buddhist ownership to the hilltop at Choodaik-kudaa.

In the meantime, new SL police posts have been put up at Mallikaith-theevu and Kangku-veali in recent weeks.

The SL Navy didn’t have a marine corps during the times of the war with the LTTE. Now, the U.S. Pacific Command is grooming the occupying SL Navy, which has established a marine training facility at the SLNS naval base in Champoor, the heartland of Moothoor East.

Moothoor East was a prosperous agricultural area of the homeland of Eezham Tamils. Now, the agricultural lands have been taken over by the SL Navy.

The people have no land rights as they are yet to receive ownership documents to even their residential areas. Cultural genocide is targeting the places devoted to deity worship, and intelligence wings of the occupying SL Navy, Police and the ‘Terrorist’ Investigation Division are harassing the people with constant surveillance.
