According to the CEA-Central Environmental Authority, the Contamination of the Groundwater in Rathupaswala is not due to the Venigros factory. The Controversial Company is Not Responsible For the Rathupaswala Water Contamination.
The Central Environment Authority informed the Court of Appeal yesterday that, The contamination of groundwater in Rathupaswala is not a result of the activities of the Venigros factory, which is located in the Rathupaswala area.
In a report filed through the Attorney General's Department, the Central Environmental Authority said that, the pH of the ground water was not within the permitted levels recommended by the SLSI. Therefore, the water is not suitable for drinking, the CEA also recommended.
These facts were revealed, when the writ petition filed by the Siyane Water Protection Association and the Centre for Environmental Justice was taken up for hearing by the court.
The petitioners asked for time to study the report and considering the request, the court fixed the next hearing for the 28th of April.
