President Sirisena said that Sri Lanka is now free from external pressure over human rights violations. The President made these observations addressing at the SLFP 65th Anniversary Convention in Kurunegala on September 4. The President vowed to fend off external threats, hitting out against his critics who claim that he was betraying the country to foreign forces. “I will not permit any external forces to interfere in our country,” he pledged. The President said the visiting of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in 2009 brought impact on the United Nations Human Rights Councils. International community alleged Sri Lanka committed war crimes and as a result the UN passed a resolution in the UNHRC. The new government came to power and has changed such difficult situation to the country.
