The Supreme Court yesterday (19) postponed to 8 November the hearing of the appeal petition filed by Northern Province Chief Minister, C.V. Wigneswaran. The appeal was taken up before a three-Judge Bench, comprising Justices Eva Wanasundera, Prasanna Jayawardena and L.T.B. Dehideniya.

Due to Justice Dehideniya agreeing to participate in the hearing of the application, the consideration of the appeal was postponed to 8 November by the Court. Last August, the Court of Appeal had issued an interim injunction after considering a petition filed by former Northern Province Minister Balasubramaniam Deniswaran, stating that his removal by the Chief Minister was illegal. However, Wigneswaran in his appeal has pointed out that the said interim injunction is against the law and that the Court has no authority to issue such an order. Therefore, the SC has been moved by Wigneswaran to overturn the interim injunction issued by the Court of Appeal.
